The first annual Hemp Halloween Party

Wes LOVES Halloween!  This is a well known fact and the past several years he has talked about having a Halloween party and getting the house all decorated up but it just never happened.  This year back in July already he started getting ready.  He sent out notice that he WAS having a Halloween party this year and we set a date that seemed to work with most of my family at least.  Over the last few months he has spent his spare time making ghosts and goblins and trying to figure out the best way to make a fog machine without spending $40 to buy one. He also scoured craigslist to get some extra lighting and other things to add to his collection of creepy props.

Well the weather played a little havoc with his plans for Halloween night but he got a some of it up in the front yard and I heard several people talking about it being cool while taking the kids around the neighborhood the night before when we did our Trick or Treating.  Then Saturday was the big party.  My parents came down early to help with the house and Wes and his brother Jeremy spent all day transforming the house and yard into his version of a kid friendly haunted house/woods.  We mowed a path through the brush in the rear of our yard and he moved all his props back there to make a haunted trail.

We didn't have the crowd we had planned due to a few people being sick but we still had a nice turn out.  Several of my cousin's and some friends came from Jasper, Wes's brother Jeremy and his girlfriend and kids and his parents made it as well.  We had a potluck supper with chili, chicken and dumplings, and vegetable soup then we let the kids bob for grapes since I didn't think they could get an apple in their mouth :)  The ones that tired got soaked but had fun doing it.  After it got dark Wes got the gator out and the kids and adults took turns going through the haunted trail.  The kids had a blast and several of them went 3-4 times it was a big hit.  The kids played and the adults visited and I think everyone had a great time.  I know we did and we hope to make this an annual event.  Wes is already thinking ahead to next year and how to make it better.
