New Discoveries

As with all new homes there is a time of discovery and ours has been no differerent.  Since we moved into the house in November we were not able to explore outside very much and most of the plants and flowers were already dormant for the winter.  There were some discoveries to be made inside however.  First there was the mysterious light at the bottom of the deck stairs.  It took well over a month to figure out how to turn the blasted thing on!  Sometimes it would be on and sometimes it would be off but we could not figure out which switch worked for it.  Finally Wes's dad figured out it was the switch to the inside stair going to the basement.  Since most of you haven't been to the house you wouldn't know this but that switch is in the middle of the house no where near the outside wall so why it works that light I have NO idea.  But at least now we know.  That's not the only weird light switch though there are three different lights in the main bathroom each having a seperate switch one switch being outside in the hall way, Kaden's room has a switch for the hall light, and the light for the main overhead light in the living room is on the middle landing for the stairs going upstairs so you have to go up 5 steps to turn on the light.  Weird but at least now we know and are getting used to the way things work.

Now that spring has sprung we are discovering the new plants and flowers that are starting to bloom and sprout around the yard.  We are also discovering how much more yard work is involved in caring for 1.4 acres vs. .25 acres :)  So far we've discovered we have a crepe myrtle, several azalea bushes, several yellow knock out rose bushes, forcythia bushes, 2 dog wood trees, and several other pretty trees and bushes that I have no idea what they are.  There isn't a whole lot of landscaping really which we would like to do eventually but for now it's neat to see what was hidden during the winter.  Here are a few pictures from last week.  Some of the flowers are actually already falling off the forcythia is pretty much all green now where two weeks ago it was all yellow flowers.
Here are a few pictures from around the yard.
One of the Azalea bushes
I have no idea what this is it has little white things on it.
One of the dog woods
One of the forcythia there are 4 or 5 of them
The crepe myrtle in the front yard I'm not sure what color it will be yet.
I think this is some kind of holly it was green all winter.
This one has a tag that it's a yellow knock out rose there are two and another bigger one further in the yard.
Be sure to see the other post from today below!

I think the one with the white things all over it is also a holly. I can't enlarge the picture though to see it better. The white things are likely the flowers that will later become red berries. They don't necessarily have berries every year. Email me the pic if you can and I'll look at it.
