First Steps

Over the last few months there are several things that have concerned me/the doctor about Kaden.  He was delayed walking and he is an extreamly picky eater and won't even try new foods.  The doctor had recommended we have First Steps come and evaluate him to see if their services could help.  For those who don't know what First Steps is it is a government program that helps families get early therapy services for kids from birth to 3 years old.  They did his evaluation today at daycare where they evaluated his develpment overall, speech, eating, gross and fine motor skills, social skills.  From there if the child qualifies (which Kaden did) they make a plan and will have the therapists come to your home or daycare to do therapy.  Overall they said he is a little behind in his fine motor skills, slighly in speech and gross motor (walking), and definaly eating.  They are going to recommend therapy for all three although they said they didn't think he would need the PT very long.

As a parent I don't want him to need any of the therapy but I also don't want him to be behind.  The ladies that came out said he really wasn't bad it's more that if he gets a little boost now it will only help in the future.  The eating is more of a challange and she said the type of problem he's having (he only wants the startch/dry stuff) is harder to deal with because you can't really hide the good stuff in it, but hopefully the therapy can help some and some kids will kind of outgrow it and start eating more on their own eventually.  Hopefully that's the case or they can at least give us some pointer to help.

Glad to know you can get the help now to hopefully prevent needing it once he's in school.

Glad Kaden is able to get help, especially with his eating. Good luck to him, and you. Hopefully he won't be too stubborn! :-)
