Last weekend was the annual Relay for Life in Jasper. The Hartings family has been participating since it started in Dubois County and it's always a lot of fun. What started with my aunts and uncles is now my cousin's and our kids. The kids and I headed for Jasper right after work Friday. I stopped at mom and dad's and dropped the kids off and ate some supper then headed into the relay. We walked and talked, and participated in the luminary ceremony then ate some pizza and bread sticks and walked some more. We all went home a little after midnight to catch a few hours of sleep. Saturday morning I took the kids into the relay with me and mom and dad came in later too. Aubrey participated in the kiddie tractor pull along with Owen, Addison, Kenley, Gavin, and Avari and she actually did pretty good. She said she wanted to do it but when we got there and she saw the tractors she backed out but when the other kids were getting ready she decided she wanted to do it. After the tractor pull we walked some and visited then when mom and dad got there the kids went to play on the play set that was set up. They had a really good time on it while the rest of us walked.
After the relay mom and dad took Kaden to their house for a nap and Aubrey and I met my cousin Tina at McDonald's. While we were there Gwen and Emily and their families came in too so the kids got to play together some more. When we left Aubrey wanted to go with Tina to her house for a while so she could play with her dogs and on her swing set. I did some shoping in Jasper then went to mom and dad's. Dad had been wanting to take the kids fishing and the weather was about perfect for it so when Aubrey got back from Tina's we packed a picnic and went to my uncles shelter house/pond. We made some burgers and fished while they were cooking and a while after we ate. The fish were biting like crazy and the kids had a really good time. Kaden wasn't real sure what was going on but he loves Grandpa so he's happy as long as he's on his lap. Aubrey did great she wanted to do it herself of course but she did really good and even threw a couple of the fish back since they were too small to keep.
After we cleaned up there we headed back home. It was a great weekend though and I know the kids had a really good time. Hopefully we will have a chance to go again soon.
