First ER visit

We had our first Ambulance ride and ER visit on Saturday. Friday Kaden started with a head cold and by that night he was wheezing. I started his breathing treatments but he struggled some overnight so we took him to the doctor first thing Saturday morning. They gave him two treatments in the office but still didn't like the way he sounded and his oxygen levels were not where they wanted them so they sent us to the ER by ambulance so they could keep him on oxygen on the way over. The ER at Kosair is always swamped so it took a little bit to be seen but they did a chest x-ray and did an hour long breathing treatment on him. The x-ray was clear which was good but he actually got worse after the first treatment so they started another treatment and some steroids to get the inflimation down. Luckily the second treatment helped a lot and got the breathing back to normal so we were able to go home that night. They thought they were going to have to keep him over night so I was really glad we didn't have to do that. Since my car was at the doctors office and we only have one Carol went to get Wes and Aubrey and then they went and got the car.  Aubrey went home with Carol and Wes came up to the hospital and sat with us until Kaden was ready to go home.  We went to the pharmacy and got a perscription filled then went home. By that time Kaden was WIRED!! I guess between the steroid and all the albuterol they gave him it kicked in and he was feelin good and hungry! I didn't think we were ever going to get him to bed but we finally did. Luckily he seems to be holding his own now with the breathing treatments every 4 hours at home. We had a recheck with the doctor yesterday morning he was still wheezing some but not in distress so she said just to continue the treatments and let them know if he got worse. This is the second attack like this in a few months luckily the first one we caught right away and he didn't have to go to the hospital but within an hour he went from just a little head cold to having a lot of trouble breathing. So at this point the doctor is saying he does have asthma. They are putting him on a daily low dose steroid to hopefully help limit the number of attacks since we are getting into the worst time of the year for them.

Kaden was amazing through the whole thing though he was calm and sat through the treatments without any problem.  In the ambulance I just sat on the stretcher with him on my lap and he was ok with that then I just carried him to and from the ambulance.  I hope we don't have to do it again but other than being a long day we had great care and it could have been much worse.
